Budget Hearing One– March 24, 2025 – 5:30 p.m. – High School Library, Delhi, Iowa
The Board of Directors of the Maquoketa Valley Community School District met in the High School Library on Monday, March 24, 2025, for the purpose of conducting a public hearing on the 2025-2026 Proposed Budget. All motions carried unanimously unless otherwise noted.
Board Members Present –Feldmann, Kunde, Overman, Zietlow
Board Members Absent – Dabroski
Staff Present – Supt. Kim Huckstadt, Troy Osterhaus, Erika Vanderloop, Tiersa Frasher, Brenda Becker and Jackie Moorman
Visitors Present – Mike Putz, Mark Smith, Ryan Weber, Alexa Weber, Duane Conrad, Oak Bandy and Cindy Bandy
Motion was made by Zietlow, seconded by Feldmann to approve the meeting agenda as presented. All ayes. Carried.
In a motion by Overman, seconded by Feldmann the Board entered into a public hearing on the 2025-2026 Proposed School Budget. All ayes. Carried.
Mark Smith presented a question regarding the FY26 levy Rate. President Kunde gave a detailed explanation of the districts FY25 levy rate and the proposed FY26 levy rate. She explained that for FY25, Maquoketa Valley had the 23rd lowest levy rate of all school districts in the state of Iowa at $9.79. The proposed FY26 levy rate is $9.75 which is a decrease of $0.04.
Alexa Weber asked for more clarification on the tax notice she received in the mail.
Duane Conrad asked for more details on personnel costs and the use of the Management Fund.
Supt. Huckstadt took time to address various budget issues and the lack of SSA funding.
Duane Conrad asked an additional question regarding the FY26 levy rate in comparison to other neighboring districts.
In a motion by Zietlow seconded by Overman the public hearing was closed.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:51 p.m. in a motion by Feldmann, seconded by Zietlow. All ayes. Carried.
